ALL-ON-4® AND ALL-ON-6® In Richardson
Revolutionary Replacement After Total Loss
When you’ve lost all your teeth in an arch, you may think that dentures are your only option for replacing them. Well, think again! Dentures alone only give you a fraction of the biting and chewing power that you enjoyed before, and they can slip out of place at the worst times. Instead, you can combine your dentures with implants and have the best of both worlds through All-on-4® or All-on-6®. Dental Care Today of Richardson proudly offers this service to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to gain the smile they want and deserve—even after tooth loss.
What Are All-On-4® and All-On-6®?
Every adult should have 32 teeth. That’s a lot of individual teeth to replace! Luckily, we don’t have to have a separate implant for each one. Rather we position 4 or 6 implants throughout the arch in strategic locations that will keep the dentures in place.
For both All-on-4® and All-on-6® implant tooth replacement, we use the same method. They entail placing a lower number of dental implants in places that maximize existing jawbone density and gum tissue volume in order to provide support for a full denture. In many cases, these tactics eliminate the need to undergo invasive procedures like bone grafting. The number of implants will depend largely on the size and shape of the jawbone. The primary key to success for both of these procedures is anchoring the dental implants into the dense portion of the jawbone at the front of the mouth.
What are the benefits of All-On-4® and All-On-6®?
To support the middle and back portions of the denture, All-on-4® and All-on-6® have these posts precisely positioned diagonally, enabling patients who may have otherwise not been candidates for implant-supported dentures or who would need advanced preparatory procedures to receive implant-supported tooth replacement more quickly or comfortably. These methods also lead to greater chances for successful placement. Both All-on-4® and All-on-6® tooth replacement procedures can be paired with an immediate load denture, so patients will not spend any time without a functional smile.
How do I care for my All-On-4® and All-On-6® dentures?
Although All-on-4® and All-on-6® require special skills to place, maintaining these implant-retained dentures is fairly easy. If you choose to have your dentures permanently fixed, then you need to do the same oral care as what’s necessary for natural teeth, including the following:
- Brush and floss your teeth daily.
- Visit our Richardson office at least twice every year for checkups.
- Use a daily antimicrobial mouthwash.
For removeable dentures, You need to take care of them just like you would normal dentures by soaking them in denture cleanser every day. In addition, to extend the lifespan of your implant-retained dentures, you can also do these things:
- Drink more water.
- Consume less sugar.
Am I a good candidate for All-On-4® and All-On-6®?
All-on-4® or All-on-6® enable those who may not qualify for other dental implant procedures to get the implants they want for a stable, functional smile, but you still must meet the following criteria:
- No natural teeth remaining.
- Good oral and overall health.
- No negative experience during surgery or anesthesia in the past.
It is particularly important that you have a consultation with Dr. Nguyen. He can review your medical history and list of medications and then evaluate your mouth to see if you’re a good candidate for All-on-4® or All-on-6®.
