Sedation Dentistry Experience Better Dental Care

In addition to offer dental care in a relaxed atmosphere delivered by gentle dentists, we may encourage some patients to consider sedation dentistry to remain pain and stress free during treatment. Our skilled team offers a wide range of sedation methods from mild nitrous oxide to more advanced oral conscious and intravenous (IV) sedation. Nitrous oxide is often referred to as laughing gas due to the feeling of euphoria patients experience. It is a popular sedation method because the level of relaxation can be easily adjusted during treatment to keep patients comfortable, and the effects of nitrous oxide wear away quickly. That means patients can return immediately to their daily activities. Oral conscious and IV sedation are both deeper levels of sedation. Patients will remain awake, but will likely feel drowsy and not remember their office visit. Oral conscious sedatives are taken orally about an hour before treatment, and patients are relaxed before they reach our office. Like nitrous oxide, IV sedatives are administered in the office and can be adjusted throughout the procedure. Both oral conscious and IV sedation are long lasting, so patients will need to have a friend or family member drive them to and from our office. Some of the reasons we recommend sedation dentistry services include:

  • Severe anxiety or dental phobia
  • Difficulty numbing with local anesthesia alone
  • Need to complete numerous or complex treatments in fewer appointments
  • Sensitive teeth, gums, or gag reflex
  • Inability to safely complete procedures without sedation due to physical or cognitive impairments
