Keeping smiles whole and healthy is always our goal at Dental Care Today of Richardson. However, there are cases where removing one or more teeth is the best option to help patients keep their smiles healthy. When you need to have teeth removed, our skilled dentist and caring dentistry team can create a plan to remove the tooth comfortably, and if necessary, we will also establish tooth replacement treatment plans to get the flawless smile back on your face fast. If you need to learn more about tooth extraction or any other services we provide, don’t hesitate to contact our dedicated dentist and dental care team to find out more.
WHAT IS A TOOTH EXTRACTION?
A tooth extraction is the removal of teeth that may be necessary when teeth are no longer functional, are adversely affecting surrounding teeth, or for a number of other reasons. These treatments may be performed by pulling if the tooth is fully emerged from the gum line or surgically when teeth are impacted (unable to erupt from the gums).
HOW LONG WILL EXTRACTIONS TAKE?
The length of time for your individual tooth extraction will depend on a number of variables, including how many teeth are being removed, where they are located in the mouth, and whether or not they are erupted from the gum line. Most patients should plan to spend two or more hours in the office. You will then need to recover for at least 24 hours before returning to your daily activities, and most patients really need at least two full days to start feeling better before they can go back to work, school, or other day-to-day routines.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TOOTH EXTRACTION?
When you leave our office after extraction, we’ll provide a complete list of directions to help you keep the healing socket clean, relieve pain, and reintroduce foods. Following the removal of your tooth, you will experience some bleeding, inflammation, and discomfort for the first 48 hours before the socket begins to heal. If you experience severe pain, sensitivity, or inflammation, you should contact our team immediately. These can be symptoms of infection or dry socket, and we’ll need to provide further treatment to ensure you can continue to heal comfortably.
