Dental Checkups & Cleanings

Our dental team focuses treatment plans on prevention. Our goal is to help patients keep their smiles whole and healthy for a lifetime. During twice-a-year dental checkups, patients will receive a thorough screening.

We use digital x-rays, photos, and visual and manual examinations to pinpoint early indicators of common oral health concerns, such as:

  • Tooth decay
  • Teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism)
  • Oral cancer
  • Gum disease
  • TMJ dysfunction

One of our skilled hygienists will thoroughly remove plaque and tartar buildup from even the hardest-to-access areas of the smile. The most important aspect of any dental checkup is the time we spend getting to know our patients and helping them achieve and maintain their healthiest smiles. We’ll be your partners in achieving and maintaining a healthy smile, we’re always here to answer questions, and we do our best to make visiting the dentist a great experience for every patient we see.

Dental Sealants

Sealants are recommended for young patients and adults who are prone to decay or who have deep pits and grooves in their teeth that may allow bacteria and plaque to accumulate, leading to decay. The process is quick and can be completed as part of any dental checkup. We simply paint a thin coat of liquid sealant onto the surfaces of teeth. Then, a curing light is applied to harden the substance. Once in place, the sealants are completely clear, and with proper care, they can last for years.

TMJ & Bruxism Therapy

The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) connect the jaw to the skull, allowing for smooth, pain-free movements. When these small joints are damaged by excessive strain or facial trauma, the result can be impeded jaw motion or pain during even the most mundane daily tasks like speaking, chewing, or smiling.

Bruxism is a common oral health condition that leads to patients grinding or clenching their teeth typically during sleep. While this unconscious grinding and clenching can lead to TMJ dysfunction, the two oral health conditions are not necessarily related. However, they may be treated using the same method in many cases. Oral appliances for bruxism can be as simple as a thin guard that separates the rows of teeth to prevent unnecessary damage.

When patients suffer from TMJ, a more advanced nightguard is made. These occlusal guards position the jaw in its ideal resting place. They prevent unnecessary nighttime jaw movement, and within a few weeks of wear, patients typically see significant improvement in jaw mobility and comfort.

Gum Disease Therapy

Gum disease affects millions of U.S. adults each year, and our team offers numerous preventive and restorative treatments to ensure complete smile health. In the early stages, more frequent professional teeth cleanings may be effective. If the disease advances, we may need to provide a deep cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing, and for severe cases, a gingivectomy may be recommended.
