Gum disease breaks down the supportive structures around teeth. Over time, the soft tissue becomes stretched and pulls away from tooth roots creating deep pockets where plaque and tartar buildup and are more difficult to remove. When this occurs, we may recommend gingivectomy to prevent continued buildup of plaque and tartar that can breakdown the supportive alveolar bone and damage tooth roots. We will remove and reshape the gum tissue using soft tissue lasers to ensure comfort during treatment and quick healing time following the procedure.
